Comment (by joedolson):

 In reviewing this, I determined that the `currentMenuItemHasPopup`
 function was no longer relevant, since it was predicated on the aria-
 haspopup attribute always being present on items. I also determined that
 this really needed the `aria-expanded` attribute.
