 Ah, this is awkward 😅, @adamsilverstein beat me to opening a PR. I'll
 open one anyway containing the patch that I worked on yesterday:
 https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/7035. It's a different
 approach, perhaps there's value in comparing the two.
