Comment:

 I'd like to try and finish this in 6.7. That may mean deciding not to do
 it, but this has lingered in the state of "we have agreed on a path, but
 nobody has done anything" for too long! Taking ownership; but feel free to
 take it back, @azaozz, if you wish to shepherd it.
