> However, anyone on a Mac using Safari when trying to download from the
.org repo will have Safari extract the plugin file on download by default
(unless they change this in Safari preferences), and then most of those
users would be used to compressing using the native mac compress and
uploading to their WordPress website. Which is now broken because of the
6.4.3 update.
First, understand that w.org zip files are not affected by this. The zip
files we serve will unzip fine for both themes and plugins.
Second, the most common way of downloading a theme or plugin from w,org is
to get it directly in the theme or plugins screen. Direct downloads via
Safari is a minute proportion of users.
And thirdly, yes, if you unzip it and then make a new zip and then upload
that, an if you're using the Mac method, then it's going to have a
problem. However, telling people not to unzip it and just upload the
original zip file is a easier response to that issue.
Nobody is saying it's not a problem, they are simply saying it's not as
critical of an issue as it's being made out to be. There are workarounds
for plugin and theme authors, and user impact is minor at best.
