 Thanks for the added context, @rmccue. I tend to agree that the original
 commit was likely not resulting in the improvement that it was meant to
 produce. Given that a revert of this change will not be backported to
 prior versions of WordPress, it may be worthwhile for effected caching
 plugins to put in place a mechanism to mitigate cache gets against known
 cache misses.
