Discussed in today's 6.6.2 bug scrub]. Summary:
* Does [58844] fix this issue?
No, but it is fixing a case where it needs to bail out (reject an update)
as part of [58473] which was introduced in 6.6 cycle.

[58844] makes sense to me as a follow-up fix.
