 Idk that feels pretty arbitrary to me. While I definitely want to see
 overloading as well (and as soon as possible), even this "barebones"
 approach that means you no longer need to litter your code with
 conditional `require_once` calls is already a significant DX win and a way
 to make concrete progress on an 8-year old issue.
