Comment:

 Based on the comments from both 6.4 core tech leads, the developer behind
 the original change,  the original consensus reached in slack, and no new
 rationale presented in the contrary, I am going to close this ticket as
 `wontfix`. Discussion can continue so feel free to add new research or
 rationale.
