Comment:

 Seems there's alignment and consensus to move forward committing
 [https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-develop/pull/3887 PR 3887] as it
 implements the memoization (static cache variable) lean approach. Will let
 this sit until tomorrow just to make sure before committing.
