 *Just in case it isn't obvious, my GitHub comment just now (see above) was
 saying it's been more than a year since the last message about this topic.
 Meanwhile, the fact of the matter is that this has been a shortcoming in
 WordPress that was reported about 8 years ago according to this ticket.
