 May I also suggest that this problem (and perhaps a link to
 https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/56924) is mentioned on the docblock
 of `path_is_absolute()`, and perhaps `path_join()`. Seems the latter is
 used quite often and this slowdown may be causing other problems too.
