 Ah, this is the problem. That setting is for the RSS feed, not the pages
 you see in the browser.
 I just tested 6.1 RC3 with a theme that shows full content on archive
 pages, and the more tag works just fine. A bunch of the themes you
 mentioned do not show full content on archive pages, so you cannot test
 the more tag with them.
