 I agree with [comment:3 johnbillion]'s hesitation:

 Deprecating or removing this doesn't provide much benefit, so I'd be
 hesitant to deprecate it.

 reasoning for closing #38160]:

 I too think there's not enough benefits to outweigh the impacts of
 deprecating. If however enough benefits do surface, this could be reopened
 for consideration.
