 This issue is causing noticeable performance issues on many sites running
 6.1. I strongly feel this regression should be addressed in the upcoming
 minor release, even if the timeline needs to be adjusted. Cc @JeffPaul
 @desrosj

 Otherwise, a 6.1.2 minor release would be needed as soon as possible.
