 to clarify, this is (only) about the image that is displayed in the media
 library in the "edit image" screen, right?

 when you insert the cropped image into a post for example, does the
 correct cropped version get used correctly?

 worth noting that WordPress keeps the original image when making these
 crops, so displaying the original un-cropped image might be considered
 expected behavior (if consistent).
