 Minimum requirements for WordPress have changed since this discussion was
 closed:

 Is your opinion about using the {{{ filter_var }}} still the same, @dd32
 and @aaroncampbell? Is it perhaps time to start using this built-in PHP
 function instead of doing some of the validation and sanitisation
 ourselves?
