 I had the same issue a while back before seeing this ticket, and switching
 to MariaDB worked perfectly fine. The changes I made are
 https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-
 develop/compare/trunk...aristath:try/env/mariadb?expand=1 but using the
 patch from above works just as well.
