Comment:

 This might involve the (child) theme stylesheet. I tried centering a JPEG
 inside a Genesis Blocks "Container" block using Twenty Twenty-Two (and
 again with the Genesis Sample theme), and the image still displayed in the
 editor.

 Block editor-related reports belong on
 [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/new/choose the Gutenberg
 GitHub repository], so could you open an issue there if it is not the
 theme but something else I missed?
