 Akismet is already a featured plugin. I still continue to believe that
 bundling Akismet with WordPress isn't that much different from people
 discovering it from the Featured plugins on the plugin add new screen.

 I like what Akismet does and I'm a fan of the idea behind why it was
 included originally -- but we've proven over time that no other plugin
 meets the criteria for bundling.

 Akismet has enjoyed it's historical placement. Why wouldn't we bundle a
 security plugin with so many sites getting hacked/malware infected? If we
 don't bundle other plugins for these kinds of reasons, then we have no
 choice but to move forward with unbundling Akismet in a future WordPress
 release.
