 I think including the additional tests to ensure BC would be a good thing,
 I've pushed a few more to the [https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-
 develop/pull/2583/ linked pull request].

 I'm removing the commit keyword as I wrote the code so need sign-off from
 someone else before it is commit ready.
