Comment:

 Today I had a "1" next to updates while my update page was showing that
 there were no updates. It turned out that one of the updates I talked
 about earlier in this ticket, had an update but didn't show it...

 Thankfully, I found this amazing script online:
 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22137814/wordpress-shows-i-have-1
 -plugin-update-when-all-plugins-are-already-updated

 It helped me solve the problem, but it's not to accessible to non techy
 folks.
