Comment:

 Beta 1 is happening in less than 30 minutes. I have discussed with @jrf
 who has been incredibly busy elsewhere. I suspect she will circle back at
 some point to share more information as to why type casting is not a good
 solution and why a strict check is preferred here.

 Need to reclose this ticket to prepare for Beta 1 release party.
