 that there already is a template editor.

 The template editor was added in 5.8 and is accessed via the block editor
 when a theme or plugin has added support for it.
 A full site editing theme is not needed to use the template editor.

 The template editor and what we have called the site editor until now has
 some differences, they are not the same editor, I would recommend against
 using this label.

 In the template editor you view the content you created in the post and
 page, as part of a template.
 In the site editor, you view the same templates but with placeholder
 content.
 In the site editor you edit the homepage, blog, archives, 404 etc.
