 The functional change in [attachment:"49628.6.diff"] looks good to me.

 In [attachment:"49628.7.diff"] I've added a note to the filter description
 indicating that for a post to be considered viewable the filter must
 return a boolean true with an explanation as to why.

 @hellofromTonya if you don't think the explanation is required, then I'm
 happy if your version of the patch goes in.
