 Hello @davetgreen,

 This might be 6 years old late but thanks for the new feature request!

 I've attached a PR that introduces a new method
 `wp_get_archives_result_object()` which returns an array of archive links
 data. This should should suffice the request.

 Others are highly encouraged/needed to check and test.
