 Note that Compose V2 is still in beta and there are two related upstream
 reports for these issues:

 * [https://github.com/docker/compose-cli/issues/1903 docker compose
 environment variables improperly casting while using defaults]
 * [https://github.com/docker/compose-cli/issues/1918 should not warn about
 unset variables that have inline defaults]
