 I have the same problem with a staging website which is password protected
 with a Basic authentication method. I addedd a IP passthrough (I had a 401
 error before) in the Apache configuration in order to enable the local
 batch to access to the preprod website.
 But I still can't generate an application password with the same message
 as above "Your website appears to use Basic Authentication, which is not
 currently compatible with Application Passwords."

 I checked the profile.php entry in the network tab of the browser console.
 Yes, I see an authorization header : Authorization: Basic cHJlcH....
 Now , what can I do ?
