 Afraid the site code is private and too vast to share easily, but if I
 could provide you with some specific values or function results from
 Chrome dev tools, I'd be happy to.

 Specifically, why would the autosave.js solution not work while the
 functions.php one does, and everything was working before 5.6.1? Perhaps
 you can see a corner case somewhere?
