 Ah really? I didn't see a consensus, and thought the issues about needing
 to update the second design to match the about page every release had put
 that one out of the running.

 I'm happy to tweak anything, but I don't think we should aim for About
 Page style unless we're planning on updating this every release. Also,
 IMO, the bright blue clashes with some of the other admin schemes, which
 is fine on the about page but (personally) would make me close this very
 quickly on the dashboard. This more subtle design works well with all the
 schemes.
