 Correct. Changing a file's name is a back-compat issue and should never
 happen unless completely unavoidable. That may be fixed in core in 6.0 but
 will remain a problem "forever" in other places :(

 So my suggestion is to revert these file name changes and release a new
 version of Requests before updating it in core.
