 Thanks for your reply, @SergeyBiryukov. The problem indeed only happens
 when using WP-CLI. When using the [WordPress Beta
 Tester](https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/), I could
 update to 5.9 Beta 1, as expected.
