Comment (by jorbin):

 The only version of WordPress that is supported is the latest, which is
 currently 5.8.  Backporting before then should be off the table unless we
 want to change that policy. Backporting to help plugins continue to
 support older versions only encourages individuals to not update WordPress
 to a supported version.
