 @juliobox Just a quick acknowledgement of your comment, I currently
 focused on the 5.7.1 release but will get back to you once that is out the
 door.

 The first change was the purpose of the ticket as, even though it's a
 change in behavior, it's important that checking permissions returns the
 same result, no matter which function used. The rest of you comments I'll
 review after the release.
