 @xanathos Thanks for the report!

 Do you use the Classic editor or the (Gutenberg) Block editor? If you use
 the blocks, do you see this in all blocks or just certain ones (paragraph,
 quote)? Also, is your site in French or another language?

 There are reports #48602 and #44448 for similar situations with the French
 smart quotes, which involve extra tags (`em` for italicized text or `span`
 for a different text color).

 I did a quick test in French (France) for both editors and did not see a
 problem. (I'll upload the block editor screenshot.)
