Comment:

 Didn't get a chance to review this before 5.6 RC, but I think if some of
 these fixes help prevent unnecessary breakage, they might still be a good
 fit for this release, even if there are some code changes.

 Moving back for now, would like to take a closer look for 5.6 RC2.
