 To echo @nathanrice... I did a little checking with folks here at WP
 Engine / Genesis / Flywheel / Local WP and we can think of a good number
 of use cases where this would be helpful for our customers & products. As
 with other plugin authors, we have our home-brew ways of dealing with this
 today. Having a standard would be helpful.
