Comment:

 I stumbled upon this behavior when deploying WP 5.4.2 to the Linux
 production server. Why "stumbled"? I still develop on XAMPP/Windows
 (imagick not installed) and this local instance of WP 5.4.2 does not add
 "-1" and the likes to the name of the uploaded file ... bug or feature?
