Comment:

 This ticket seems to have fallen through the cracks for 5.5. I fortunately
 stumbled upon this fact looking through some Meta tickets the other day.

 I am moving to 5.5 and reclassifying as a task, but I'm requesting the
 approval of @SergeyBiryukov as the Core Tech Lead to include this change
 in 5.5 post Beta 1.

 This update to Dashicons would mark the final release of the Dashicons
 font per the [https://make.wordpress.org/design/2020/04/20/next-steps-for-
 dashicons/ proposed roadmap on Make Core]. Releasing this version in Core
 allows the Dashicons repository to be archived and closed, directing all
 new requests to the
 [https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/tree/master/packages/components/src/icon
 new Icon component].

 Though technically an enhancement, this is actually just an update to a
 CSS file, and four isolated font or sprite files.
