 Thanks @shayatik!

 I was able to reproduce this, but only while using the Classic Editor. It
 looks like it works correctly up until 4.8.

 I was unable to reproduce this issue in the new block editor, so I am
 going to mark this as a low priority bug. If someone would like to create
 a patch for this, it can be considered for inclusion. But, since this is
 not a bug that breaks anything, it won't be prioritized.
