 "On Posts page and archive pages, posts show:" would certainly be better.

 This is not a simple question and I will need to reflect on it some more.

 From my perspective, as a user not familiar with the theme, the key point
 would be:  How do I know this or find it out?  Believe me, I searched for
 an answer for quite a while.  Maybe a note in the documentation would be
 appropriate stating that "Full text" and a little further explanation.

 Once one knows the answer, it is easy-peasy.  I wonder if this issue has
 led to the one star reviews.
