 For the last 5 years, [https://make.wordpress.org/core/2015/09/10
 /wordpress-and-php7/ starting with PHP 7.0], WordPress has been aiming to
 get ready for the latest stable PHP version at the time of launch. I don't
 see a reason to break that precedent with PHP 8.
