 Just to clarify, if the Enable jQuery Migrate Helper plugin is active and
 your site is upgraded to 5.5, the experience should be identical to 5.4
 (except for any added features or improvements of course).

 The benefit of running the plugin and the most recent version of WordPress
 is that it will display the JavaScript warnings to administrators and help
 you to determine which plugins have compatibility issues. Users reporting
 the issues to plugin and theme authors is an important part of encouraging
 developers to update their code.

 I am going to close this issue out as I'm fairly confident that this is
 the reason for the issues you were experiencing. And until you decide to
 update to 5.5 (it is your right as a site owner to wait!), there's no
 further debugging that can happen here.
