 Sorry, that last approach in [attachment:"41750.4.diff"] doesn't actually
 work.

 [attachment:"41750.5.diff"] uses `class_alias()` instead, which does work
 as intended. [attachment:"41750.5.diff"] also merges the changes from
 [attachment:"41750-phpcs-fixes.patch"] into a single patch, and makes some
 PHPCS changes to the suggested changes.

 The failing test still remains: https://github.com/WordPress/wordpress-

 Props to @wpscholar for testing and refining the latest patch with me.
