Comment:

 This was discussed during a triage session today.

 I'm going to close this ticket `wontfix` as the new block editor
 (Gutenberg) has been introduced since the ticket was opened. The older,
 classic, editor has been moved in to maintenance mode and is no longer
 receiving enhancements.

 Similar options appear elsewhere in the admin but they hide significantly
 less content so any performance gain would be negligible.
