 In the meantime everybody who needs a specific version of jQuery could use
 the plugin I made: https://wordpress.org/plugins/jquery-manager/
 I understand that this is not the optimal solution. I think it's difficult
 to switch for the WP team, because there are so many plugins who may rely
 on version 1.x of jQuery.

 But eventually I think WP needs to set an deadline, move on and abbonden
 old plugins. This is my personal opinion.
