 Good thoughts, worth clarifying. I took a quick stab at a mockup to
 clarify what I meant by this. Lots of feedback to still tackle, but felt
 this one deserved to be taken a stab at first.

 If you'd like to provide me with a particularly gnarly cpt menu
 configuration you'd like to see "converted" to this style, feel free to
 send it my way and I can make a mockup. It would make a good "acid test"
 of the layout.
