Comment:

 Sadly, it does seem like the Gutenberg theme work is going to be a much
 longer time coming than I had originally hoped. In the mean time, there's
 clearly a practical use for this to be added now.

 If someone feels like refreshing the patch, let's get this committed in
 the next couple of hours, before 5.2 beta 1 is released.
