 Thanks for reporting this @pattyok and welcome to WordPress Trac!

 There are a lot of ideas being explored for ways to improve this in the
 Gutenberg repo: https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/9628

 Some improvements have already been merged and more are being tested and
 worked on. I'm going to close this in favor of the upstream issue so we
 can keep the discussion in one place.
