 Thank you for the detailed info, @paragoninitiativeenterprises. This is
 well into areas that I'm not familiar with, I appreciate you taking the
 time to write it all out. 🙂

 Gossamer certainly sounds interesting, though I'm not sure how much
 assistance WordPress folk would be able to provide: there are very few
 folks in Core (though a few more in the wider ecosystem) familiar with
 building this kind of software.

 Without trying to turn this into a bikeshedding ticket, are there options
 available that are already built? What are the downsides to them that
 would make them unsuitable?
