Comment:

 Gutenberg is still in active development stage and not everything is
 readily available yet.

 Validating custom fields or `metaboxes` directly from Gutenberg to my
 knowledge not fully implemented properly till date.

 So at this stage my suggestion would be to continue with `Classic Editor`
 plugin specially when you are dealing with custom fields.
